Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, has urged the European Union (EU) not to acknowledge the outcomes of the upcoming March Russian presidential election. This appeal was revealed through a transcript provided by a spokeswoman.

“Do not recognise these elections,” Navalnaya told the European Union’s Foreign Affairs Council on Monday, according to the transcript.

“A president who assassinated his main political opponent cannot be legitimate by definition,”
Navalnaya said in the speech.

The Kremlin, denying any connection to Navalny’s demise, rejects Western allegations holding President Vladimir Putin accountable for the incident, deeming them unacceptable. Putin has cautioned that any attempt by foreign powers to interfere in Russia’s election will face a robust response.

“Make no mistake, Putin is behind Navalny’s death,” Biden said, adding he was “not surprised” but “outraged” after the reported death of the Russian opposition leader.

He bravely stood up to the corruption, the violence and all the bad things the Putin government was doing,”
Biden added.

Navalny passed away in the Arctic prison where he was serving a 19-year sentence. The 47-year-old, who led the Anti-Corruption Foundation, openly criticized Putin.

According to Russia’s federal penitentiary service, Navalny, who had been poisoned before going to jail, became unwell after taking a walk.

Navalny felt bad after a walk, almost immediately losing consciousness. Medical staff arrived immediately and an ambulance team was called,”
the prison service said in a statement.

Resuscitation measures were carried out that did not yield positive results. Paramedics confirmed the death of the convict. The causes of death are being established,”
it added.
