Personal Tax of Rishi Sunak for 2022-23: UK News
The 43-year-old Indian-origin leader, who had previously indicated his intention to publish his tax returns, revealed a tax bill of GBP 508,308. This marked an increase of approximately GBP 75,000 compared to the previous financial year (2021-22).
According to the tax documents, Sunak earned nearly GBP 1.8 million through capital gains, up from GBP 1.6 million in 2021-22. Additionally, he received GBP 293,407 in other interest and dividends.
All of the investment income and capital gains originated from a US-based investment fund listed as a blind trust, as per the summary. Sunak also garnered GBP 139,477 during the year from his roles as a Member of Parliament and Prime Minister, including allowances for the use of 10 Downing Street.
Prepared by accountancy service Evelyn Partners, this tax summary follows the release of Sunak’s previous returns filed with His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) in March of the preceding year.
The disclosure came after scrutiny intensified when it was revealed that Sunak’s Indian wife, Akshata Murty, held non-dom status, exempting her from UK tax on international income from her father’s software firm, Infosys. To prevent it from overshadowing her husband’s political career, she subsequently relinquished the legal status.
