The lawsuit was initiated by Apple in 2022, alleging that Rivos, a “stealth” startup based in Mountain View, California, had hired numerous Apple engineers and utilized their confidential information to develop competing “system-on-chip” (SoC) technology. SoCs are integrated circuits containing various computer components in a single chip, including central processing units and graphic processing units.
Apple emphasized that it invested billions of dollars and over a decade in research to advance its SoC designs, which played a pivotal role in transforming personal and mobile computing.
Rivos, rejecting the accusations, contended that Apple aimed to penalize both Rivos and any Apple employees considering employment there from the moment Apple became aware of the promising startup. In response, Rivos filed a countersuit against Apple last September, citing unfair competition.
Last month, Apple settled associated claims against six former employees who had departed the company to join Rivos. The details of the settlement between Apple and Rivos remain undisclosed, and representatives for both companies have not provided immediate comments on the matter.
