International DJ Jyoty on pulling out of Berghain: DJ Jyoty, a rising star in the British music scene, has gained recognition through her acclaimed radio shows. Her musical repertoire spans various genres, including UK Garage, house afro, unreleased classics, and underground electronic music.
For those unfamiliar with her, you can explore her remarkable performances on BBC Essential Mix and the Boiler Room, both of which garnered widespread attention with 3.6 million views on YouTube.

Initially scheduled for her debut performance at the renowned Berghain club, Jyoty, along with other internationally recognized artists, canceled appearances in Berlin. This collective decision led to the Berlin Senate retracting the controversial “anti-discrimination clause” for arts funding.
More than 1,000 figures across cultural sectors, including film, publishing, and music, expressed solidarity with Palestine, prompting a backlash. Renowned individuals like Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Charlotte Prodger, and Annie Ernaux, winners of the Turner and Nobel Prizes, joined the Strike Germany movement.

The contentious clause, introduced last month, mandated recipients of government arts funding to reject antisemitism as per the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition. This definition includes equating Israeli policy to Nazis and denying the State of Israel’s right to exist.
Jyoty’s withdrawal from Berlin’s dance music CTM festival is not her first political stance. She previously supported Indian farmers during their strike a few years ago. Beyond her role as a broadcaster and DJ, she has also worked for the UK Labour party after studying politics.
